MODULAR NECKLACES

Introduction
"Modular Necklaces" is a technical and conceptual design course for those who already have a basic level of jewelery. After a lesson on necklaces and their movements, portability, connections and closures, the student will be guided in a conceptual investigation of the shape and manufacturing processes of the pieces.
The workshop is aimed at goldsmiths, artists, artisans, students and designers.
AIM OF THE WORKSHOP //
The aim of the course is to think and create unconventional solutions for a modular necklace.
Together with the student we will find multiple solutions for connections, links and locks.
Is possible to extend the reserch on a plan for a collection.
The students will get a booklet with illustration of different connections,
clasps, chains ,picture of modular jewellery and a technical explanation.
CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP //
DAY 1:
LECTURE ON MODULAR NECKLACES:
• Connections, Links, Clasps
• Parameters of wearability
• Contemporary necklaces
CONCEPTUAL RESEARCH ON SHAPES
PAPER AND CARDBOARD PROTOTYPES
DAY 2:
NECKLACES CARDBOARD PROTOTYPES
• Chocker
• Collier
• Long necklace
INDIVIDUAL TALKS TO FIND APPROPRIATE CONNECTIONS
DAY 3:
BENCH WORK: to try the chosen design in copper or brass (try different connections and jumprings)
BENCH WORK: students who are ready can start making the chosen modular sample in silver or other alloys (Shibuichi,
Shakudo, Pure silver...) and start with the final design.
DAY 4:
BENCH WORK: students continue making the necklace + individual talk.
Previous experience in basic jewelry techniques is required.
MATERIALS//
All materials are included in the course price, we will work with brass, copper and aluminum. The student can bring silver or other alloys if he wants to work with it.

€ 580 (VAT free) divided in two quotes:
-first quote of 300€ within the 20th of December 2023
-second quote of 280€ within the 7th of January 2024
TEACHER//
Lavinia Rossetti is an Italian contemporary jewellery maker.
She holds an MFA in Contemporary Jewelry and Body Ornament from Alchimia
Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence.
She obtained a BA in Art History with a special focus in Art Jewellery from the
University of Pisa, which was followed by a three-year program in Contemporary
Jewellery at Alchimia, where she was tutored by international artists such as Peter
Bauhuis and Ruudt Peters.
She worked as an assistant for Ralph Bakker in Rotterdam and as a teaching assi-
stant with Peter Bauhuis at Alchimia.
After five years of teaching in the intensive courses at Alchimia she is now giving
technical and conceptual workshops in Europe and Asia and continuing her arti-
stic investigation at the Royal Academy of Antwerp in the Body and Material Re-
invented research program. She is working as an independent jewellery artist
exposing in international fair and exhibitions.
The course will be in Italian, English, Spanish.
